Norton Simon made headlines with the purchase of Rembrandt's painting of his son Titus at a controversial auction at Christies in London (March 1965) for a then historic price of $2,234,400 US. The painting was first shown by Simon in the United States at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. from May 26-December 5, 1965.
